The NC State Extension history page, updated December 15, 2025, quoting a 1997 survey: Ashe County led the state with 9.8 million trees on 6,500 acres. That is a 1997 state ranking, not a current national one.

Frosty’s Choose and Cut

Frosty’s Choose and Cut, 2152 Beaver Creek School Road, West Jefferson. The page says it is closed for the 2025 season and points visitors to Old Barn Winery next door. No 2026 dates or hours.

Long’s Tree Farm

Long’s Tree Farm, choose-and-cut at 8306 NC Hwy 16 South, West Jefferson, in Glendale Springs. The homepage schedule is labeled 2025 only: Nov. 22–23, open Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28–30, every weekend in December until Christmas, 9:00 a.m. until dusk. No 2026 dates.

C and J Christmas Trees

C and J Christmas Trees, 1166 NC-194, Todd. Choose-and-cut Fraser fir. The association page says “Opening November 14: Saturdays & Sundays 9am-4pm” and does not give a year.

Peak Farms

Peak Farms, 1011 Low Gap Rd, Jefferson. Wholesale Fraser fir. The association page says they do not offer choose and cut. No public hours.

In 2012, the association reprints a Winston-Salem Journal story that the White House team picked the Blue Room tree at Peak Farms, owned by Rusty Estes and his son Beau.

In 2021, the association says Peak Farms provided the 2021 Official White House Christmas Tree. The 2012 Journal story says the 2008 tree came from River Ridge Tree Farms in Creston, not Peak Farms.
