West Jefferson murals, galleries, and frescoes
The Ashe County Arts Council says Gallery Crawl runs from June through October on the second Friday of the month, and that galleries extend their hours from 5 to 7 PM. Crawlers are invited to view the downtown murals.
Galleries on the crawl list
The same page, checked 4 Oct 2026, names these participating galleries: Ashe Arts Center, Ashe Custom Framing and Gallery, CatchLight Gallery, Doe Ridge Pottery, Florence Thomas Art School, Naked Creek Farmacy, and Originals Only Gallery. The council’s address on that page is 303 School Ave., West Jefferson, NC 28694. Its posted hours are Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM. Phone 336-846-2787.
The West Jefferson guide already says downtown has more than a dozen murals, and it names Jack Young’s History of Ashe Through the Ages (1996) and Marianne DiNapoli-Mylet’s New River Traditions.
Ben Long frescoes
The guide says St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, on Beaver Creek School Road, holds Ben Long’s first three North Carolina frescoes and is open to visitors day and night. Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Glendale Springs holds his fresco of The Last Supper. The history of West Jefferson tells how those frescoes were painted.
The West Jefferson cabin is the one named for the town. See the West Jefferson A-frame. For the week you are here, see West Jefferson events this week. Phone 336-649-9279.
Gallery Crawl hours, the gallery list, and the arts-council hours were checked 4 Oct 2026 on ashecountyarts.org. The mural titles and the fresco sentences are already on the West Jefferson guide.
